Energy secretary may limit diesel exports

(CNN)– A source says Energy Secretary Chris Wright has been in touch with refiners to weigh support for voluntarily limiting diesel exports.

This comes as the Trump Administration hears from many fellow Republicans who want to combat record-high diesel prices by banning U.S. diesel exports.

But it’s unclear how voluntary restrictions would work since refiners are locked into long-term contractual obligations.

The White House and Energy Department have been contacted for comment about the outreach.

A White House official previously said President Trump is evaluating all options.
