Former Clemson stars Watson and Watkins sign contracts with Houston Texans
Houston, TX – On Friday, former Clemson players Deshaun Watson and Carlos Watkins inked four year deals with the Houston Texans. Watson’s has a fifth-year team option with it, but financial details were not released.
The O’Brien Award-winning quarterback has the potential to see significant playing time in his first season under Coach Bill O’Brien, as Watson is expected to compete with incumbent starter Tom Savage over the offseason after the team traded former starting quarterback Brock Osweiler to the Cleveland Browns.
Carlos Watkins, another member of the national championship Clemson team, is expected to provide depth at the defensive line position in his first season. He will be joining former Tiger D.J. Reader on the Texan’s front line.
Watson and Watkins will be joining former Clemson players Deandre Hopkins and D.J. Reader on the defending AFC South Champion Houston Texans.
