Gary Adams named head coach at Batesburg-Leesville

Gary Adams, current Batesburg-Leesville Middle School physical education teacher and head middle school girls’ basketball coach and Batesburg-Leesville High defensive coordinator for the varsity football team and boys and girls track head coach, has been selected as head football coach for the Panthers.  Adams was selected from a field of over 90 applicants for the coveted position.

Adams is a 1996 graduate of Batesburg-Leesville High, where he was a member of the 1995 State AA Football Championship team and played Linebacker, Strong Safety, and Tight End.  He also played basketball for three years and ran track for one year.  In the fall of 1996, Adams accepted a full athletic scholarship to attend Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA.  He graduated with a BS in PE with Health Endorsements in 2001.  Before returning to B-L High in 2006, Coach Adams taught and coached at Lynchburg City Schools in Virginia.

Throughout his career, Coach Adams has had multiple All Region players, Region championships and winning seasons in football, basketball and track.

“Growing up in Batesburg-Leesville has helped me to understand the kids and people of the community,” cited Coach Adams.  “I have had the job and privilege of coaching the kids of our community and during this time, I have managed to gain their trust and their respect.  They know that I am here for them and I absolutely love what I do.  I have always tried to instill the word RESPECT into every student and athlete that I have dealt with and that basic understanding of who I am as a coach and as a person has helped to build great relationships on and off the field, court and track.”

Coach Adams and his wife, April Tolen-Adams are the proud parents of three children, Taleah, Javonte’ and Chanelle.
