Benedict, Claflin, Voorhees Receive $6M Grant
COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO) – Benedict College is among three Historically Black Colleges and Universities in the state selected for career grants as part of the United Negro College Fund’s Carolina Cluster Career Pathways Program.
Benedict College will receive $1.5M through the initiative. Claflin University will receive $3.3M and Voorhees College was also awarded $1.2M.
The grant process was open to four-year historically black colleges and universities and predominantly black institutions.
The grant, funded by Lilly Endowment Inc. is designed to help students gain the knowledge, preparation, insight and skills needed for meaningful employment upon graduation.
The ceremony will take place today at 2 p.m. on the campus of Benedict University.
Dr. Michael Lomax, president and CEO of the United Negro College Fund will present the awards.
