Friday will start out quiet, but the rain will arrive by late afternoon. It will continue to rain for most of the night with a slow change-over to sleet and snow moving in from the northwest. In the end, snow accumulations could reach as much as 3 or even 4 inches north and west of Columbia (places like Newberry and Winnsboro). Since the turn-over to sleet and then snow will take a long time to happen nearer to Columbia, the accumulations will be much lower. And well south of Columbia will see no accumulation at all – just some flurries. This first image shows roughly what the radar will look like around 2AM on Saturday. The green is rain and the blue is snow, with some sleet (purple) mixed in between. The second picture is my estimate of total accumulations by mid-morning on Saturday as the whole storm is winding down.
