Sumter Man Charged for Scalding Toddler
SUMTER COUNTY, S.C. (WOLO) – A man is charged with unlawful neglect of a child or helpless person after allegedly scolding a toddler with hot water.
Steve Johnson, 24, allegedly used scalding hot water from a shower wand to disciple the victim after the child defecated in his pants and in the shower, officials say.
Officials say Johnson is the boyfriend of the woman who was babysitting the three-year-old child.
The child suffered injuries to the buttocks and leg areas and was taken to the Augusta Burn Center for treatment of second and third degree burns.
Johnson is facing a fine at the discretion of the court and up to 10 years in prison.
