LOUISVILLE, KY. (CU SID) — Corey Ray’s walkoff double with two outs in the ninth inning scored Colin Lyman from second base and lifted No. 6 Louisville to a 9-8 victory over No. 18 Clemson at Jim Patterson Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Clemson (24-12, 8-10 ACC) scored three runs in the first inning, then Ray’s two-run homer in the second inning tied the score. The Tigers regained the lead with two runs in the top of the fifth inning thanks in large part to two Cardinal errors, then Louisville (29-7, 13-5 ACC), who swept the series and improved to 23-1 at home, answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Tigers tied the score with two runs in the eighth inning, but Louisville, who scored in six different innings despite not putting a leadoff batter on base in the game, won in walkoff fashion on Ray’s ground-rule double to deep left-center.

Shane Hummel (2-0) earned the win by pitching a perfect ninth inning with a strikeout. Pat Krall (5-1) suffered the loss, as he yielded seven hits, three runs (two earned) and two walks in 4.1 innings pitched.

The Tigers begin a 13-game homestand when they host Georgia on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m., on ESPN3. It’s Military Appreciation Day, as we honor veterans and current military personnel. Fans can buy one regular-price ticket and get one of equal value for free.
